Event in conjunction with the international conference Zen2.0
ZEN×Well-being Fukui Executive Committee (Representative: Chinami Tachida, President of Abundant YOUniverse Co. Zen2.0 in Fukui - Eiheiji-cho” will be held on October 11 (Fri.) at the Eiheiji-cho Shikinomori Complex.
Zen2.0 in Fukui” (hereafter referred to as ‘Zen2.0 in Fukui - Eiheiji-machi’) is an opportunity to practice Zen and mindfulness while engaging in deep dialogue with speakers and participants to take a step toward a sustainable future, and is organized by a committee of volunteers from within Fukui Prefecture. The event will be held by a committee of volunteers from within Fukui Prefecture.
The event will be held in conjunction with Zen2.0, an international conference on Zen and mindfulness now in its eighth year, and will feature a program in line with the Zen Conference 2024 theme, “Sitting on the Earth: Touching the Earth. On the day of the event, some of the programs will be jointly developed through a video link with Kenchoji Temple, the head temple of the Kenchoji School of Rinzai Zen Buddhism, located in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, where the international conference “Zen2.0” will be held.
The event will also include a panel discussion with local producers, craftsmen of traditional industries, and calligraphers who are engaged in community-based activities in the prefecture, as well as workshops to reconnect with the local community. The event will be based on the spirituality of ZEN and the importance of the blessings of the local community in the prefecture, and through dialogue (dialogue) unique to Fukui, we will experience how each individual's happiness (well-being) is connected to the local community and the global environment, an event that is unique to Fukui, the home of the Daihonzan Eiheiji Temple.
The Executive Committee will also provide the opportunity for “Zen 2.0 in Fukui Retreat,” a retreat tour whose purpose is to refresh the body and soul and to grow spiritually while making the event more personal. This two-day/one-night tour program, organized by Fukui Hitomono Design Co., will focus on the Zen 2.0 2024 theme of “Sitting on the Earth,” and will deepen inner tranquility and insight through a Zen meditation experience at Eiheiji Temple and at Kibo-ji Temple, which is associated with Zen Master Dogen. In addition, we will also explore the traditional food culture of the region. The tour also aims to provide a guide for building sustainable happiness through contact with traditional indigenous food culture, nature, and philosophy. This retreat tour will be commercialized in the future in the areas of wellness tourism and study tours as a unique tourism content for Fukui Prefecture.
After overcoming the pandemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), this event will be held in order to explore once again the question, “What is the path to global peace and happiness? What is the happiness of human life that forms the basis of such happiness? This event will be an opportunity to discuss these questions.
This event, co-sponsored by Zen2.0, a general incorporated association that aims to fuse advanced technology with Zen spirituality, is expected to provide participants with an understanding of Zen spirituality and a search for inner peace and harmony with the outside world that they would not be able to reach alone in Fukui. It will also be an opportunity to expand the recognition of Fukui Prefecture as a sacred place of ZEN to the world.
In addition, on Monday, November 18, the Zen 2.0 in Fukui optional tour will be held by SOE, a cooperating organization, to trace the symbiosis of nature and spirit. This tour will take participants to the workshops of Fukui's traditional craftsmen and artisans who will be presenting at Zen Conference 2024, and will offer a journey of new discoveries through the “five senses” of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching.
The committee is proud to have the Daihonzan Eiheiji Temple in Fukui, and will contribute to the promotion of tourism in Fukui Prefecture as a sacred place of Zen by first raising the subjective well-being of the people living in Fukui, and by communicating the appeal of Zen and spiritual culture unique to Fukui to people in Japan and abroad.
